Lia Cook : Material Allusions

The fiber arts of Lia Cook combine the representation and aesthetics of fine art with the technology and epistemology of craft. Cook emphasizes that in her work, "Fabric is both the subject matter and the material object in itself." Along with other major American craft artists of our time, Lia Cook has restored the independence of beauty and its relevance in an art of complexity, nuance, and significance. This exhibition catalogue of a show organized by the Oakland Museum in 1995 looks at the artist and her works. Illustrated with 25 full color plates of her work featured in the exhibition.
