This wide-ranging book tells the story of California pioneer, Isaac Julian Harvey ( 1816 - 1899) and his life as an Indiana farmer, businessman, banker, store owner, hotel owner, wagon train scout, Plumas County ranch owner, county judge, and the first mayor of Salinas City, California. Using documents, letters, and contemporary writings, the book not only covers the life of Isaac Harvey, but also has sections on his children and other descendants. This book includes a chapter on Isaac's time spent as a ranch owner in Plumas County and his life and times in Spanish Ranch. A thorough and entertaining study of a California pioneer and his legacy.
