The first significant Chinese immigration to the United States came in the 1850s when thousands of Chinese came to "Gum San" - "Land of the Golden Mountain." Chinese immigrants worked hard and struck it rich in so many ways - many worked as miners, others opened stores, restaurants, and landries. Chinese people started communities and many helped build railroads and other infastructure of growth.
